  • 2016 DOUG TAYLOR DISTANCE AWARD

    Doug Taylor Award

SURPRISE!  AND THE WINNERS ARE ...

Yes folks, now two years running, the dynamic duo of Trevor & Kathy are Winner & Runner-Up respectively.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

Our Top Ten this year are...Drum roll...

    • #8 Wayne Holden: 19,697k
    • #7 John Helferty: 20,042
    • #6 Chris Burridge: 21,348k
    • #5 Lise Leveille: 21,386k
    • #4 JP Leveille: 23,711k
    • #3 Andre Gauthier: 27,153k
    • #2 Kathy Luten: 37,175k
    • #1 Trevor 45,728k

    And some fun facts

    • Total number of 2016 participants: 54
    • Total Accumulated Kilometers: 574,056
    • Average per participant: 10,630
    • Top Ten Total Accumulated Kilometers: 253,181
    • Average Kilometers for our Top Ten: 25,318
    • Couples That Ride Together – This is something fun that was noticed this year. The difference between JP’s and Lise’s odometer readings was only 2,325k - Impressive when you note that they are numbers four & five in our Top Ten. Then there are the other Chapter couples that keep it real close. Only a 417k spread between Shawn and Lorna. Michael and Audrey only 80k apart. That sexy couple Bev and Dave reported only an amazing 2k difference. Bev makes Dave take the longer way around corners? Last but certainly not least: Richard and Ginny’s readings were exactly the same.
    • And for one final “Believe It Or Not” – Our #3 position holder Andre Gauthier just by pure luck ended up winner our first ever Random Participant Award: A $25.00 Freedom Harley-Davidson® of Ottawa Gift Certificate. No it was not fixed!
  • 2015 Doug Taylor Award

    Doug Taylor Award

The 2015 Doug Taylor Distance Award OVER 600,000 KILOMETERS!

Well all those harassing e-mails sent in late March, early April, throughout the beginning of the season and then at the end of October, early November appear to have worked.  This year we had 51 members who participated – They reported a combined total of 608,787 kilometers – Congratulations Riders!

Once again this year’s winner is Captain Kilometer Sir Trevor Luten with an incredible 46,285k.  Finally after many years of missing the Runner Up position by only a few kilometers Trevor’s “Way Better Half” Kathleen (Kathy) Luten gets her name on the DTDA Plaque with an impressive 31,049 kilometers.  Here’s a picture of our winners with the star of the show Mr. Doug Taylor.

Here are the fun facts for 2015:

    • The average distance travelled by DTDA participants works out to be 11,937 kilometers each.
    • The Top Ten participants accumulated a total of 254,153 kilometers.  The average for this group works out to be 25,415 kilometers each.

And now the Top 10 2015 Doug Taylor Distance Award Participants

Our Runner Up and Winner both received Freedom Harley-Davidson® of Ottawa Gift Certificates compliments of Freedom Chapter and their names have been added to the DTDA Plaque proudly on display at Freedom H-D®.

So I still did not get the 100% participation that was hoped for which means I am cooking up ideas for 2016 – You did hear I was back to wreak havoc didn’t you?  Perhaps a random prize just for participating or a random “prize” for NOT participating????  I’ll come up with something.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in the frenzied activity and helped pay tribute to our friend Doug Taylor – He deserves it!  The 2016 version will be even more fun and “fun” is what it is all about.  I know you just cannot wait to answer my e-mails in April.

    All the Best!

  • $9031.40 Raised! - September 22, 2012

    Silent Auction and Dance Cheque

Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would be writing out such a large cheque to Children's Wish.  Ok, we really wanted too but could we?
Sure, we planned big, and hoped that it would be a big success.  Can we just say that the entire event surpassed our expectations.

Thanks to everyone who helped us.  Wether you bought a raffle ticket, a dance ticket, made a donation, or got caught up in a bidding war, you played an important part in this events success. You can plan an event and everything looks great on paper, but if you don't have the support of friends, it's destined to fail. Fail is not in Freedom Chapters vocabulary and the collective efforts paid off to the handsome sum of over $9000!

Children's Wish is the happy recipient of the funds and wishes will be granted. Freedom Chapter is an awesome group of people with big hearts and deeper pockets.  Thanks for making us look good at our fundraiser, because we could not do it without you!

  • 2012 Fun Run - June 9, 2012

This year our signature riding event for the Children’s Wish Foundation takes place on Saturday June 9th and is coming way faster than you might imagine. We need your participation and assistance to make this event the success it is. As always we need prizes and financial donations.

A letter from the Children’s Wish Foundation and from our Chapter is available on the Forms page and can be downloaded to help you in your quest. When you are out there on your search for prizes, don’t forget we are known for having the best of any local ride so quality not quantity is key. We’ll also need registration, game stop and wrap volunteers to keep things running smoothly on the day so please consider giving up some of your time for that. And don’t forget those Fun Run pledge forms also available on the Forms page – You can hit up friends, family, co-workers, riders of those “other” bikes and even street people for a donation.

If you raise at least $50.00, registration will be free. For every $25.00 over that you will receive 4 more prize bundle bid tickets thus increasing your chances of bringing home the prize bundle of your choice. Like the letter, the pledge form can be downloaded here as well. Last year was amazing and will be tough to beat but Freedom members know how and it’s all for the Kids!

    Registration 8:30am to 10:00am
    Freedom Harley-Davidson® of Ottawa
    1963 Merivale Road, Ottawa, Ontario.

Pledge forms and letter from Children's Wish Foundation available on the Forms page.

  • Ladies of Harley Silent Auction & Dance - Sept 22, 2012

We have chosen the date for our annual dance and fundraiser to take place on Sept. 22/12. Once again the kind folks at the Kanata Sports Club have continued their support of this event. We know that we will be making wishes come true and more info to come.
