Going on a long ride,? Get yourself fit!

Moving along in regards to safety, it might be a good time to build on what we’ve already talked about.

With some long trips ahead for many of us — the East Coast Rally, the Winnipeg Rally, and the Dam Ride — have you stopped to think about your physical fitness?

Be honest with yourself. Are you truly fit enough to complete these rides safely and still enjoy them?

Even when broken up over multiple days, these trips can be long, tiring, and demanding. We are not sitting in a four-door, climate-controlled car, relaxed and just cruising along. Riding a motorcycle requires strength, endurance, balance, coordination, and focus. Wind resistance, road vibration, heat, cold, rain, traffic, and long hours in the saddle all take a toll on the body.

Fatigue doesn’t just make you sore — it slows reaction time, affects judgment, and increases the risk of mistakes.

A few things to consider:

  • Core strength helps with balance and bike control.
  • Leg strength supports you at stops and during slow-speed maneuvers.
  • Grip and arm strength reduce fatigue in your hands and shoulders.
  • Flexibility helps prevent stiffness and cramping.
  • Cardiovascular fitness improves stamina and mental sharpness.

Have you thought about starting a simple exercise routine? It doesn’t have to be complicated. Even 15–30 minutes a day can make a difference. Walking, light strength training, stretching, yoga, or bodyweight exercises can all improve endurance and reduce fatigue on the bike.

Hydration, proper nutrition, and good sleep are just as important. Preparing your body is just as critical as preparing your motorcycle.

We take pride in maintaining our bikes in top condition. Let’s make sure we’re maintaining ourselves too.

Until next time — practice, practice, practice.

Ride safe.
